Abstract: A population based study was carried out at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound (GHC) to estimate the incidence of sudden unexplained death occurring in individuals 15–49 years of age with presumed chronic primary epilepsy. Eleven deaths, considered to be sudden and unexplained, occurred in an estimated 8460 person years at risk for an estimated rate of 1.3 per 1000 years at risk.
