Abstract: First Paragraph: Curious spells in which a man may wander about in confusion and exhibit the disordered function of the autonomic nervous system must have been known since ancient times and were well described over four centuries ago by Benivenius (Temkin, p. 179, 1945). In a series of papers, Jackson and his associates (Jackson and Beevor, 1889; Jackson and Colman, 1898; Jackson and Stewart, 1899) demonstrated the relationship between seizures of this kind and lesions of the mesial temporal region.
