Abstract: First Paragraph: Several neurologic disorders are associated with the risk of sudden death (Ficker and So, 2008). The most commonly encountered neurologic sudden deaths are caused by stroke or brain trauma. Rapid death, rather than sudden death, more appropriately characterizes the observable course of rapid deterioration of vital functions in these conditions. Death does occur suddenly in some forms of myopathies and channelopathies when severe cardiomyopathy or cardiac conduction defects develop. In those instances, death is not totally unexpected or unexplained.
